Wrapping the fruit with plastic bags will create a "greenhouse effect" for the fruit, causing the fruit to not grow and develop normally, causing the fruit to wilt and fall off a lot in the dry season due to inability to metabolize to the outside
environment.
According to Dr. Nguyen Manh Khai, Science and Technology of Post-Harvesting, Agricultural Academy, said “areas with hot weather like these days in the North and Central Vietnam, use plastic packaging film for fruits with plastic bags. As is common in growers, this will prevent oxygen from invading and prevent fruit from growing well. Too hot weather can cause a greenhouse effect, the temperature inside the bag will rise so that the fruit cannot grow normally, which can easily lead to wilting and falling ”.
A more effective solution to protect dragon fruits from pests and diseases is to wrap dragon fruits with biofilm made from industrial tapioca starch in Vietnam.
Dragon fruit has just achieved good results, beautiful fruits have good feeling, and limit the use of drugs. In addition, the biofilm surface has a nano-treatment, allowing sunlight and UV through to ensure fruit quality. When the weather is hot, the membrane helps to prevent the fruit from suffering from the "greenhouse effect". This model is being tested in several districts of Long An province such as Chau Thanh and Tam Vu and achieved satisfactory results. (Source: GalaxyBiotech.vn).
