The iron ore pellets are charged in a direct reduction unit in the furnace and regenerated from iron oxide in the form of iron

What are the benifits of using DRI rather than Scalp?
Sponge Iron is a better substitute of steel scrap for steelmaking through the EAF/IF routes.
• It also replaces ferrous scrap as coolent in L.D. Converter.
• Non-pyrophorie, free from tramp materials viz. Copper, Zinc, Tin, Chromium, Tungstan, Molybdnum etc.
• The addition of DRI to scrap in the feedstock in an EAF process brings about a remarkable reduction in the impurities like Sulphur and phosphorus.
