Hericium erinaceus, also known as Hericium erinaceus, is named for its resemblance to the head of a monkey because of its resemblance to the head of a monkey. The spores are transparent, colorless, smooth, spherical or nearly spherical.
In troditional Chinese medicine this mushroom has long been considered as a medicial mushroom and a study on rats in 2005 showed that some compounds in the mushrom, like threitol, D-arabinitol and palmtic acid may have antioxidant effects, may regulate blood lipid levels and may reduce blood glucose levels.
