INDUSTRIAL SALT

Today, with the development of industry, the use and importance of salt has increased manifold. Thus, only 6% of the salt produced in the world is directly consumed by humans. 94% is used primarily in industry, making up the "big five" main ingredients of chemical production, along with sulfur, coal, lime and oil. But the largest industrial consumer of salt, it should be noted, is the chlor-alkali industry, which produces chlorine, caustic soda and soda ash for the manufacture of: plastics, paper, soap, detergents, insecticides and glass, very necessary items of human life. The food industry uses salt for canning, baking, processing flour and other products, for storing meat, salting fish, producing oil, and flavoring food. Salt is also used in other areas: the leather industry, cleaning roads from ice, drilling oil wells, and in the production of dyes and textiles. These are just some of the main examples of salt applications. The development of the chemical industry is associated with the increasingly widespread use of salt and its derivatives, and its role will certainly increase in the future.
