Ibaraki Prefecture's proud brand beef, Hitachi beef, is a meat trading standard A, B 4 and 5 from among Japanese black beef raised for 30 months by the refined breeding management technology of designated producers and carefully selected feed.
It is the highest grade brand rated in the grade. The roots of beef cattle in Ibaraki Prefecture begin about 180 years ago, when Tokugawa Nariaki established Sakurano Maki in the current city of Mito in the 3rd year of Tenpo and raised cattle there.
As the times went by, the producers also worked diligently and hard to produce high quality Japanese black beef, and in 1976, "Hitachi beef" was born.
