CA-3 coupler is also named SA3 coupler. It is a automatic type of railway coupling used mainly in Russia and other states of the former Soviet Union. Other countries such as Finland, Mongolia, Iraq, Turkey, Cameroon, Gabon, Australia, etc. also have extensive usage of this coupler.

CA-3 coupler is an improved version of Willison coupler, with better design of lock parts and mechanics. This coupler has three operation states, including coupling ready position (free position), uncoupling position, and locking position. It obtains following features:

1)    Convenient for coupling. When two couplers are in free status (coupling ready position), they will couple once touch with each other, no need to put them in full open position.

2)    Good coupling performance. The maximum lateral coupling range is 175mm.

3)    Strong strength and stiffness structure. CA-3 coupler body is the direct forced part for traction and impact force transmission.

4)    CA-3 coupler has push position, which is convenient for shunting operation. With the chain of uncoupling lever, it can keep the coupler be at uncoupling position.
