Hydrazine sulfate, also known as hydrazine sulfate, is a salt formed by hydrazine. Its pure product is colorless squamous or orthorhombic crystal. Molecular weight 130.12. Molecular formula N2H4. H2SO4. The melting point is 254 C, and decomposition occurs when heated. The relative density is 1.37. It is slightly soluble in cold water and easily soluble in hot water (2.87, 3.41 at 25, 3.89 at 30, 4.16 at 40, 7.0 at 50, 9.07 at 60, and 14.4 at 80). The aqueous solution is acidic and insoluble in ethanol and ether. It's stable in the air. It is susceptible to the action of alkali and oxidant, and can not coexist with alkali and oxidant. It has strong reduction effect. The oral LD50601 mg/kg in rats is toxic and carcinogenic. The main uses of hydrazine sulfate are gravimetric determination of nickel, cobalt and cadmium, purification of rare metals, separation of ruthenium and tellurium, precipitation of chlorate, hypochlorite and carboxylic compounds, and preparation of furacillin, hydrazine and anhydrous hydrazine. It is also used as reducing agent, insecticide and sterilizer. Hydrazine sulfate is a nutritional supplement used in the United States to combat the symptoms of anorexia and emaciation caused by cancer.
