Performance Characteristics of 17-4 Cond A, H1150 & H1150D SS

Grade 17-4 Cond-A, H1150 & H1150D stainless steel contains significant amounts of chromium, nickel and copper, along with trace amounts of manganese, carbon, sulfur, phosphorus, silicon, and columbium/tantalum. The specific performance characteristics of stainless steel grade 17-4 include:

· High tensile & yield strength maintained in temperatures as hot as 570° F

· Moderate resistance to atmospheric & acidic corrosion (equivalent to the corrosion resistance of stainless steel alloys 304 & 430)

· Heat treatability for increased strength of up to 180 ksi

· Not recommended for use in extremely cold or cryogenic temperature ranges

Annealed heat treatments are conducted at a range of specific temperatures to alter default hardness and performance characteristics. The H1150 and H1150D grades have been exposed to temperatures in the 1140° to 1160° range before being air-cooled. This technique improves the strength of the alloys while enacting slight density increases.
