Melamine, commonly known as melamine, protein extract, molecular formula C3H6N6 and named by IUPAC as "1,3, 5-triazine-2,4,
6-triamine", is a triazine nitro-containing heterocyclic organic compound used as a chemical feedstock. It is white monoclinic
crystal, almost odorless, harmful to the body, should not be used in food processing or food additives.Chemical property
Non-combustible and stable at room temperature. The aqueous solution is weakly basic (pH=8), and can form melamine salt with
hydrochloric acid, sulfuric acid, nitric acid, acetic acid, oxalic acid, etc. In the neutral or slightly alkaline case, and
formaldehyde condensation into a variety of hydroxymethyl melamine, but in the slightly acidic case (pH=5.5 ~ 6.5) and
hydroxymethyl derivatives of the polycondensation reaction and the formation of resin. In case of hydrolysis of strong acid or
strong base aqueous solution, the amine group is gradually replaced by the hydroxyl group, which becomes cyanuric acid diamide,
and then further hydrolyzes into cyanuric acid monamide, and finally becomes cyanuric acid.
