The following are some of the materials that are commonly used for products and their corresponding temperature ranges and applications.


Silicone Rubber O-Rings (VMQ, PVMQ)
For Silicones the service temperatures are from -60 ℃ to 225 ℃. Some special types can be used in extreme temperatures up to 300 ℃ and down to -100 ℃.
Silicone rubber performs well under environmental and temperature extremes. It is usually applied in automotive and aerospace industries where flexibility and longevity are important. It is also a suitable material for parts that need food grade for food handling equipment and appliances.



NBR O-Rings(nitrile butadiene rubber)
For NBR the service temperature can be designed from -55 ℃ to 100 ℃ or up to 130 ℃ depending on the difference in nitrile content and formula.
NBR compounds have excellent resistance to abrasion, non-polar oils and solvent, water, and permeation (higher acrylonitrile content will be better). NBR also can be used in conditions of dilute acids, alkalis, and salt solutions at low temperatures.



FKM O-Rings(Fluorocarbon)
For general type Viton, the service temperature is better limited to approximately -26 ℃ to 232 ℃ in static applications, though the service temperature can arrive at 275 ℃ in a short time In dynamic applications, it is suitable between -15 ℃ and 200 ℃.
Because FKM has excellent resistance to high temperature, oil, solvent, flame, chemicals, and weathering, it is usually applied in automotive, chemical processing, aerospace, and many other industries.



PU O-Rings(Polyurethane)
-45 to 120 °C.
PU displays higher mechanical strength, high abrasion, wear and extrusion resistance, high-pressure load capacity, as well as a high tear and elongation at break resistance.
PU is suitable for application in mineral oils and greases, hydraulic oils, silicone oils and greases, highly non-flammable hydraulic fluids HFA and HFB, and water up to 50℃.



PTFE O-Rings
PTFE's mechanical properties are low compared to other plastics, but its properties remain at a useful level over a wide temperature range of -100°F to +400°F (-73°C to 204°C).
PTFE is the common sealing material used for making wear rings, backing-up rings, o rings, gaskets, etc. It can be found in metallurgy machinery, petrochemical machinery, engineering machinery, and light industrial machinery.


Ethylene Propylene O-Rings (EPM, EPDM)
For EPDM the service temperature can be designed from -55 °C to 125 °C or up to 150 °C (for peroxide-cured systems).
In phosphate-ester-based hydraulic fluids and glycol-based brake fluids systems Ethylene Propylene Rubber is a good choice for sealing parts. EPDM is also usually used in hot water or steam applications up to 150 °C.
